Apparently we get lots of asks referring to custom content, so I figured I’d just do a quick run down of everything

First and foremost, this is by far the best site for custom content: http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/booty/

you see, peggysims and all those other paysites are actually going against the user agreement and profiting from sims, so what this person has done is make their content available for free to the public.

thesimsresource.com (more can be accessed with a donation of 7 euros every two months or something)

and whilst we’re at it, I figured I’d copy and paste some installation guides so you know how to go about things, and a quick reminder, lots of Sims 2 custom content requires custom ‘meshes’ (a mesh is the base for the outfit, which graphics are built upon) so if the website says you need a mesh, make sure you get it before downloading, otherwise it’ll clog your create a sim mode with a bunch of ugly winter wear shit.

The Sims 2 Custom Content Installation Guide

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the .package file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s).

3. Place in Downloads Folder: Cut and paste the .package file(s) into your Downloads folder:

• Windows XP: Documents and Settings\(Current User Account)\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\
• Windows Vista: Users\(Current User Account)\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\
• Mac: Users\(Current User Account)\Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads\

this is what you use to install clothes, hair, makeup etc

to install a house, these are the instructions you need to follow

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract: Use WinRAR (Windows) or Stuffit (Mac) to extract the .sims2pack file(s) from the .rar or .zip file(s).

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).

to install a neighbourhood, you simply need to download and extract the file to My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/SC4 Terrains

The Sims 3 Custom Content Installation Guide

the sims 3 is much simpler in terms of installing custom content, most objects/clothes/houses/patterns/etc you download will be double clickable, and you will then be given the option to install it.

For the ones that don’t give you that option, however, they will either be a sims3pack file or a sim file.

This is the installation guide for a sims3pack file, once again, from modthesims.info

• Place the Sims3Pack files into the Downloads folder in

  

• Start the Launcher.
• Select the Download button on left.
• Place a check beside each CC that is not installed. (These will NOT be grayed out and the status box will be blank).
• Select Install.

to install a .sim file, you need to do this, also thanks to modthesims.info

• Download the sim file.
• File in zip or rar format, containing a .Sim file?
  • Extract from the zip or rar.
  • Place the .sim file in the SavedSims folder in:

    

  • If you do not have a SavedSims folder, make one in the above directory

after that, you will need to open the sims launcher, go into the downloads section and left click again. I hope this makes sense and helps :)
